Spanish courses in Barcelona Spain | Spanish Schools in Barcelona Spain | Learn SpanishFAQ - FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
|
|
|
|
|
These are some of the questions that
we are asked the most about
our Spanish courses. If you cannot find the information
that you
are looking for here, please contact
us!
How
many students are there in each class?
Maximum of 10 students in each class.
How
long in advance do I have to book?
We recommend that you book 3-4 weeks
in advance to
be sure of a place, but the longer in advance the better.
How
can I book my Spanish course?
You can see how to book by clicking
on this
page.
Can
I pay with a credit card?
Yes. You can pay by credit card at the
school or if you
are not in Barcelona yet, you can mail or fax us
your credit card details on a signed authorisation form
for us to charge your card with the amount on your
Spanish course confirmation.
You can find more information
about payment by
clicking on this
page.
When do I have to pay?
As a rule you have to pay the total
price when you book.
If you are making an advance booking then you can pay
50% when you book and the rest minimum 30 days before
the first day of your course.
Can
I book 1 week to see if I like the school
and then change my booking to more weeks?
You will have to book the first week
as a separate booking.
Then if you like the school you can make a new booking
for
more weeks. This will however be more expensive than making
one booking for all the weeks together. And we cannot
promise
that there is a place for you after the first week. Our
policy is
that people who book and pay get the first places on a
course.
Can
I cancel my booking and get a refund?
Please visit our page about cancellations
and refunds to
see the terms and conditions that apply to cancellations
and refunds.
What
if I get sick during my course?
If you cannot attend classes because
of illness, we cannot
compensate you in any way or form. However you can contact
the school to get information on what you have missed
in class
and try and keep up by studying at home. If you cannot
continue
in the class when you are well again, then we will try
to move you
into another class.
Why
is Speakeasy Language School so cheap?
We are often asked this. The question
should perhaps be
"Why are the other language schools in Barcelona
so expensive ?"
We can only say, that we have qualified and experienced
native Spanish teachers, we are in the centre of town,
we have nice & well equipped
classrooms, an organised course plan and groups of
maximum 10 students. And free Internet access!
Are
the teachers Spanish & qualified?
Yes. All of our teachers are native
Spanish speakers from Spain.
They all have a university degree or equivalent and at
least 1 year of experience teaching Spanish to students
in Spain.
Is
the teaching in Spanish too?
Yes. All the materials and books are
in Spanish (immersion
courses) and the teachers teach the class in Spanish from
the first day. It´s the best way to learn a new
language. This way
you will pick up a lot more words and grammar and you
will get
used to using Spanish at all times. The reason we prefer
not to
use English in class is because languages contain different
structures
which means it´s not useful to just translate from
one language to
another. Besides that there might be students in class
who don´t
know English well enough.
How
are your Spanish classes?
Our Spanish course are "communicative"
spanish lessons, which
means that we teach a mixture of grammar, conversation
and
exercises, while covering a range of practical topics
such as
meeting people, travel, accommodation, shopping, working,
excercising, health, etc.
To see an example of a typical course structure for a
week
This example is from the 4 hour a day beginners course
and the
file will open in a new window.
How
many different Spanish levels are available?
Our Spanish courses are divided into 6
different levels as follows:
Level 1 = A1 = Beginner / principiante
Level 2 = A2 = Pre-intermediate / pre-intermedio
Level 3 = B1.1 = Lower intermediate / intermedio bajo
Level 4 = B1.2 = Intermediate / intermedio
Level 5 = B1.3 = High intermediate / intermedio alto
Level 6 = B2 = Advanced / avanzado
How long does one Spanish level take?
20 hours a week - 2 weeks to complete each level
10 hours a week - 4 weeks to complete each level
6 hours a week - 6 weeks to complete each level
Please contact
us for more information about the course content
or
to receive a free level test.
Can
I change level if I feel that
the level is too easy or too difficult for me?
Yes. If a student has a level that is either lower or higher
than
the group, then the student can change the level. It is
always
in the best interest of both student and the school that
our
students are placed in their corresponding level.
To avoid problems of changing groups it is important that
you
thoroughly complete our level test so that we can get the
level
right from the beginning.
What
is included in the Spanish course fees?
Level test ( if necessary )
Lessons in the selected group
Free Internet
Speakeasy course certificate
Speakeasy student card
What
is not included in the Spanish course fees?
Instruction books are not included in
the course fees.
We use the books Gente for Beginners and
Intermediate classes and Abanico for Advanced classes.
We also use supplementary exercises from other
reference books.
Do
you offer cultural activities?
Yes. Every day of the week we offer a cultural activity.
The
activities ranges from Barcelona walking tours to salsa
dancing
classes. The activies are not included in the course fee,
but paid
seperately on the day of the activity you wish to join.
What
part of town is the school in?
Speakeasy Language School is in the very centre of Barcelona.
In between the 3 busiest metro stations, Catalunya, Paseo
de Gracia
and Universidad, and only a 2 minute walk from the central
square
of Barcelona, Plaza Catalunya. You can see our location
here.
How
close is the accommodation to the school?
There are many hostels within 5-10 minutes
walk from the school.
Shared flats and homestay are normally within 15 minutes
by Metro or bus.
Do
I get free Internet access?
Yes! We have 4 PC's with high speed access.
Can
I get a free trial lesson?
It΄s not possible to get free trial lessons. Having
students
entering and leaving classes to see if they like them disrupts
the class. This is not fair on the students who have already
paid for a Spanish class.
So how will you know if the class is right for you?
Before you join a class we check your level by having
you complete a free level test and if necessary we can
have a teacher check your level too by having a short
conversation with you in Spanish. Based on this we
recommend a course and then you must trust our
judgement.
Where
do your students come from and
how old are they?
Our students come from all over the world
and all walks of
life, so the classes are a mix of all nationalities and
ages.
The average age is around 25.
How
long does is take to learn to speak Spanish?
This is a difficult question to answer
because there are many factors
to take into consideration. Most people have a goal of being
able to
participate actively in a business or social conversation
in the target
language.
The best advice we can give you is that of Woody Allen.
"90% of success
is showing up!" If you attend classes regularly, put
in the effort of
homework and do not space out your classes too much, then
generally
speaking this can be achieved after 2-3 months of intensive
Spanish
classes i.e. 20 hours a week.
We also recommend that you check our pages of Spanish
Language tips
and links.
